Nio establishes a mobile technology company; the first phone will be released next year

NIO (Chinese: ; pinyin: Wèilái) is a Shanghai-based Chinese multinational automobile manufacturer that specializes in designing and producing electric vehicles. As an alternative to standard charging stations, the firm is known for developing battery-swapping stations for its automobiles.

Nio Mobile Technologies Co Ltd was founded today (August 4, 2022) with a registered capital of $100 million. The firm's legal representative is Nio's co-founder and president, Qin Lihong, and the company is registered at Nio's worldwide headquarters in Anting, Shanghai.

The registration indicates the company's interests, which include the development and sale of electronic items, mobile devices, wearable gadgets, and communication equipment. The company will officially be a software developer as well as an AI hardware developer. Nio Nextev Limited is the sole owner of the new company.

Nio has many other subsidiary companies, but this is the first that incorporates mobile technology not only in its name but also in its official business scope. The establishment of the company just reaffirms Nio's intent to enter the smartphone industry. We recently learned that Mr Li, the CEO of Nio, affirmed in a conversation with certain Nio car owners that the company was definitely going to produce a mobile phone and release it once a year, in accordance with Apple's criteria.

Nio vehicles are highly linked and use cutting-edge technology, but the business acknowledges that owners who use Apple phones are at a significant disadvantage. Apple, for example, does not permit complete access to mmW technology, which Nio employs in their vehicles.

Mr Li's most recent meeting with Nio car owners in Changzhou paints an even clearer picture. Only a few days ago, the CEO of Nio told its Android phone consumers that they would not need to replace their phones within the next year. This response implies that the Nio phone will be released soon after that time range. The same conversation revealed that the Nio phone will be gorgeous (in the words of the CEO) and will reflect the design of Nio cars, with the possibility of vehicle-matching colors. With a price tag of RMB 7,000 (just over $1,000), the phone will be less expensive than Apple's offerings.

Knowing Nio's design expertise - just look at the vehicle remote - we can expect a minor revolution in the mobile world, or at least hope for one. The phone will most certainly entirely replace the remote and become an inseparable component of the automobile, which means the phone itself will have to be a design statement. There are exciting days coming.

Nio has more surprises up its sleeve; the phone will include capabilities not found on any other mobile device now on the market and purchasing the phone will reportedly be an entirely distinct and novel experience. Mr Li's last comment grabbed our interest, and we can't wait to learn more about it. As always, we'll let you know as soon as we find out. You'll figure it out.
